The Story Behind This Print

From Dust to Bloom

Telegraph Operators' Chorus

From the 1840s through the early 1900s, thousands of women staffed telegraph offices across the American frontier — transmitting Morse code, relaying war dispatches, and connecting isolated communities to the wider world. They were among the first women in American history to hold skilled technical positions. Our print translates their invisible labor into telegraph keys, Morse code patterns, wire poles, and brass instruments on deep indigo denim.

"They kept a country talking to itself. Read the code, if you can."

Source: Thomas C. Jepsen, My Sisters Telegraphic: Women in the Telegraph Office, 1846–1950 (2000). This print honors the historical legacy described above. We approach this story with the respect and gravity it deserves.
