The Story Behind This Print
From Dust to Bloom
Chimayo Overlapping
In the high mountain village of Chimayo, New Mexico, Hispanic weavers have worked two-harness looms for over 200 years. Their signature diamond patterns — woven in wool dyed with local plants and minerals — became symbols of Southwest identity. Our print reimagines the Chimayo double-layer weaving technique: two layers of diamonds in terracotta and midnight indigo overlap to create a third color at their intersection, just as warp meets weft on a handloom.
Two threads cross. A third color appears. That's how traditions are made.
Helen R. Lucero & Suzanne Baizerman, Chimayó Weaving (1999); Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe.

What is the Chimayo Overlapping print inspired by?
Chimayo Overlapping is inspired by the 200-year-old Hispanic weaving tradition of Chimayo, New Mexico. The overlapping diamond pattern simulates the warp-weft color blending of a handloom — terracotta and midnight indigo diamonds intersect to create a third color, framed by wheat gold accent stars.
