The Story Behind This Print

From Dust to Bloom

Quilting Circle Code

In 19th-century America, quilting bees were far more than sewing circles. Women gathered around oil lamps and wooden chairs to stitch — and to talk. They discussed abolition, organized mutual aid, and, according to oral tradition, may have encoded escape routes for the Underground Railroad in quilt patterns. Our print gathers their tools: wooden chairs, oil lamps, thimbles, thread spools, and sewing needles on midnight indigo.

"Nine patches. Nine stories. One country stitched from the scraps of their days. Wear the circle that kept going."
