The Story Behind This Print
From Dust to Bloom
Trade Blanket Classic
From the 1860s, American wool mills produced trade blankets for every Western outpost — bold, chunky geometric patterns designed to be read from across a trading post. Interlocking sawtooth bands of terracotta and cream, broad indigo stripes, and a center cross medallion in wheat gold. Not precious, not delicate — made to be thrown over a saddle and used hard. That's the beauty of it.
Made to be used, not admired from afar.
1860s–1890s American wool mill trade blankets; Oregon City Woolen Mills archives.
