The Story Behind This Print

From Dust to Bloom

Sacred Datura Specimen

When Lewis and Clark set out in 1804, they carried specimen boards for pressing and preserving every new plant they encountered. Generations of field botanists followed, documenting the desert's most remarkable species. Sacred Datura — with its dramatic white trumpet flower and deadly toxicity — was always filed with a handwritten 'CAUTION' note. Our print recreates that specimen board: pressed flower, seed pod cross-section, pinned moth, measuring ruler, and archival tape on washed black cotton.
